The city of Joensuu is revising its safety plan and gathering experiences related to everyday safety. Personal observations and experiences can be reported by responding to a safety survey by July 16th, 2023.
Besides residents, everyone who spends plenty of time in Joensuu can respond to the survey.
The purpose of the survey is to collect information on safety experiences and needs of the residents and frequent visitors of Joensuu. The aim is to maintain and promote safety in the city and to give people an opportunity to influence safety work.
It is encouraged to respond to the survey with a low threshold. Completing the questionnaire does not require any special expertise in safety matters.
–The safety of our city is an extremely important issue, so the views, experiences and ideas of the respondents play a key role in promoting common safety. The survey will provide the city with valuable information on current security challenges, which can thus be considered even better in future security planning, says Ville Leinonen, the Chief of Preparedness and Security.

The aim of the safety planning of the city is to prevent crime, disturbances and accidents from occurring. Also, it maintains and promotes safety and sense of security in Joensuu area. The safety plan of the city is a regularly updated action programme. The current plan has been drawn up for the years 2020–2024. The city is responsible for drawing up the safety plan, but the practical work is done in close cooperation with a working group. The group includes representatives of the region's key security actors, educational institutions, Siun Sote, the city's various administrative branches, business and industry, and organisational actors. The survey for residents is a part of a larger data collection in the context of security planning.
