Finnish Defence Forces and authorities training together in North Karelia in September

Local defence exercises will be seen and heard in Joensuu on 8–11 September

Finnish Defence Forces and local authorities will train together in North Karelia on 4–11 September. The exercises will be visible from Tuesday to Friday, 8-11 September, in Joensuu, Ylämylly, Liperi, Kiihtelysvaara and Tohmajärvi, for example.

During the exercises, soldiers as well as official and military vehicles will be seen on the streets.

The exercises will not include any shooting of live rounds. Blank ammunition will be used in some locations. Hornet fighters will also participate in the exercises, flying over the area on Wednesday 9 September and Thursday 10 September.

These exercises are part of normal operations involving the authorities in Finland. Finnish Defence Forces and different authorities train regularly together to improve their preparedness for different disruptions.

In addition to Finnish Defence Forces, the exercises will involve the police, rescue department, border guard, regional state administrative agency, social and health care, cities and municipalities. The City of Joensuu will also participate in the exercises.
