North Karelian museum Hilma and Joensuu Art Museum Onni have opened to the public with reduced opening hours. In June, the museums are open only on business days: 10 am–4 pm on Mon, Tue, Thu and Fri and 10 am–7 pm on Wednesdays. In July, the museums are open on weekends as well.

Information about the opening of the Mukulakatu children’s museum in Hilma will be announced later. The Joensuu Bunker Museum remains closed for the entire summer.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused changes in the exhibitions of Hilma and Onni. The Lost Mitten and Other Stories exhibition produced by a University of Eastern Finland project will be on display until 2 August 2020. The Tarinoita Pielisjoelta exhibition will be opened on 19 August and it will be on display until the end of the year.

The exhibitions of Joensuu Art Museum Onni will be opened from 1 June onwards. The first exhibition to be put on display is the spring’s rotating exhibition Endless Stories – Selected works from the Rolando and Siv Pieraccini Collection, which will be on display until 13 September 2020. The private exhibition of visual artist Camilla Vuorenmaa in the Joensuu Art Museum, originally scheduled for this summer, is postponed until summer 2021. The autumn exhibition Pieniä huomioita olemassaolon tavoista will be opened on 8 October 2020.

The second and third exhibition floors of the Art Museum will be opened in phases during the summer. Opening these areas in phases is necessary because the museum holds works that are protected from the vibration caused by the adjacent road maintenance project initiated in May. The most delicate works have been removed from the exhibitions and they will be put on display at a later date. The road maintenance project is due to be completed by the end of October.
