Joensuu’s Vesikkopuisto kindergarten’s Saukot children's group and staff quarantined due to exposure to coronavirus

The Saukot children’s group and staff of the Vesikkopuisto kindergarten in Joensuu have been placed in a two-week home quarantine due to a coronavirus infection detected in the kindergarten. The infection was confirmed on Sunday 23.8.2020. The origin of the infection is not yet certain. Siun sote will not provide more detailed information about the affected person.

A total of 18 children and five adults from the kindergarten staff have been quarantined. Siun sote has been in contact with the guardians of the quarantined children and the staff.

You can come to kindergarten as usual – other children and workers are not considered exposed

Other children or staff in the kindergarten are not considered to have been exposed to the coronavirus because they have not been in close contact with the person infected with coronavirus. Kindergarten groups have been separated from each other, so other groups may continue to function normally.

Siun sote reminds that it is important for everyone who has symptoms to contact their health care and apply for tests if necessary. For more information on Vesikkopuisto's care arrangements, please contact Juhani Junnilainen, Service Director. In addition, you can inquire about more information on the arrangements by calling the different groups’ phone numbers.

Stay at home during quarantine

The purpose of quarantine is to control the spread of infectious diseases. Quarantined persons must remain at home and must not be in contact with persons outside the home during this period. Family members of a quarantined person are not quarantined because they have not been in close contact with a person infected with coronavirus.

Quarantine does not automatically mean that you are infected. Healthcare has given families instructions on what to do if symptoms occur during quarantine. If no symptoms occur, quarantine is two weeks from the last possible time of exposure.

Those placed in quarantine will be provided with a formal decision entitling a guardian for a child under the age of 16 to remain at home to care for their child if necessary, even if the child is healthy. The decision is based on the Infectious Diseases Act.

Three new coronavirus cases during Saturday and Sunday in the Siun Sote area

A total of two new coronavirus infections have been confirmed in the Siun sote area on Sunday, August 23rd. On Saturday, August 22, one new coronavirus infection was confirmed. A total of 32 cases of coronavirus have now been confirmed in the area. Follow-up work on all new cases is ongoing and there has been direct contact with those who have been exposed.

The recommendation issued by the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on the use of face masks will most likely come into force next week also in the Siun sote area. Siun Sote will announce a mask recommendation and distribution of masks for the poor next week.

Instructions on how to act:

  • Even mild symptoms should be clarified. Start by doing an Omaolo symptom assessment online at omaolo.fi. You can contact Emergency Services 116117 or your own health center by phone. Do not seek treatment in an emergency room or health center before calling.
  • If you have even mild symptoms or suspect an infection, do not travel or move around with other people. Take a symptom assessment, contact your healthcare provider and apply for a corona test if necessary.
  • Wait for the coronavirus test result at home, even if the symptoms lessen.
  • Follow general safety and hygiene instructions: wash your hands thoroughly and often, cough and sneeze into your sleeve if there is no handkerchief, avoid facial contact and keep a safe distance.
