Joensuu City Counsil's integration service is responsible for providing advice and assistance in regard to integration within Joensuu city. We choose the services for you based on your needs and your situation.

Integration services

You will get your own Integration adviser who will assist you through your integration process. In addition to initial interview and making an integration plan, we also provide one-to-one and group councelling.

Advice in regard to residence permits, travel documents or obtaining Finnish citizenship will be provided by specific advisors.

Our services are confidential and free of charge. Using interpreter is also free of charge.

As a new customer, when you attend our office for the first time, please take with you the following documets:

  • your contact details (telephone number, address, e-mail address)
  • your residence permit card
  • EU registration document
  • all your documents from Migri (The Finnish Immigration Service) relating to your permission to stay in Finland
  • registration document from the Local register office (if you have one)
  • integration plan for TE-services (if you have one)
  • decision from Kela relating to belonging to Finnish social security (if you have one)

Group information events 

We organise group information events on various themes related to Finnish society, service system and culture in English, Russian, Dari and Arabic. The timetables for the Russian, Dari and Arabic events are on our Finnish website. Persons willing to participate must register for the information events in advance. The registration is binding. If you are unable to attend the event you have registered for, please cancel your registration. 
All information events will be organised at the premises of the Immigration services at Kauppakatu 29. You will be picked up from the lobby (3rd floor).

9 September    2 p.m.–3:30 p.m.: Everyday finances, insurances and taxation
17 September    5 p.m.–6:30 p.m.: Parenthood, family, day care and school

8 October    2 p.m.–4 p.m.: Benefits of the Social Insurance Institution of Finland KELA

Finnish language lessons

We provide Finnish language lessons to all immigrants living in Joensuu. We have a basic course and a follow-up course. If you have not studied Finnish before, join the basic course! If you already speak Finnish quite well, the follow-up course is for you! We have 2 groups on each level. In Autumn 2020 there will be two 7-week courses on both levels. Due to the corona virus situation, you need to register on the course. The registration is binding. The first courses will start on August 24 and they last until October 7. The next courses start on October 20 and last until December 2. There is a morning group and an evening group in both levels. There is a possibility for child care in the evening groups. The child care needs to be booked beforehand. The course and the child care are free of charge. The courses are held at Joensuu Immigration Services, Kauppakatu 29. Gathering to the 3rd floor lobby, the teacher will pick the students from there.

Follow-up courses from August 25 to October 7 and from October 20 to December 2

- Group 1: Tuesdays from 10 to 11:30

- Group 2: Wednesdays from 17 to 18:30 (Child care provided, book beforehand)

On-call hours

On-call hours are meant for short, max. 20 minute matters. You don't need to book an appointment to visit our office during on-call hours.
