The BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon in Kontiolahti organised as planned

According to the current information from the authorities, the public can take part in the event.

The BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon will take place in Kontiolahti and in the Joensuu area on 9–15 March 2020. Events take place on Thursday 12 March, Friday 13 March, Saturday 14 March and Sunday 15 March. Members of the public have contacted the event organiser Kontiolahti Sport Club and the collaboration partners, the Municipality of Kontiolahti and the City of Joensuu, regarding the coronavirus and the safety of the event.

The Kontiolahti Sport Club, Finnish Biathlon Federation, Municipality of Kontiolahti and the City of Joensuu assembled on Monday 9 March in order to assess the event preparations and public safety. During the meeting the event was assessed on the basis of the valid instructions issued by the Finnish authorities. According to the policy by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Finnish authorities have placed no restrictions on public events and the preparations for the BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon in Kontiolahti will continue according to the original plans.

The Kontiolahti Sport Club and the Finnish Biathlon Federation continuously keep in touch with the International Biathlon Union as well as with both national and local authorities in order to maintain an up-to-date picture about matters related to the coronavirus.  

The event organiser has published instructions for spectators on the website https://kontiolahtibiathlon.com/en/spectators. The spectator instructions are based on the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare's instructions for public events.

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare has published instructions for public events regarding how to acknowledge and avoid the risks of spreading the coronavirus.

The Municipality of Kontiolahti and the City of Joensuu provide free-of-charge, public World Cup transport for competition spectators. In Kontiolahti, the buses depart from the town centre, from Kylmäoja and from Lehmo. In Joensuu, the point of departure for buses is Market Square in the city centre, where it is also possible to watch the competition broadcast on a screen.
