Multilingual information on the municipal elections on 1 April

Non-Finnish citizens are entitled to vote in April's municipal and regional elections.

A multilingual information session for all interested parties will be held in the Carelicum auditorium on Tuesday 1 April from 14-16.30. Carelicum is located at the edge of the Market Square at Koskikatu 5.

The event will explain:

  • what municipal elections are all about
  • what the municipality decides
  • what services it provides.

They will also explain how to vote and answer questions. The speaker will be Mari Nupponen, a welfare and education expert from the North Karelia Regional Council.

The event will be held in English and the slides will be in Finnish and Russian. There will be plenty of time for discussion at the end. Light refreshments will also be served.

– Many new residents of Joensuu do not know their right to vote. Our aim is to encourage people to participate in the daily life of their municipality by voting and at the same time to increase the experience of participation of people from different backgrounds, says Eija Asikainen, Head of Working Life and Integration Services of the City of Joensuu.

The Election-info is organised in cooperation with the ELO project, Joensuu International House Joensuu and Talent Hub Eastern Finland.

Information on voting rights for different nationalities is available on the Ministry of Justice website.
