YEAR 2012 Travelling grants for internatinalisation of GSForest doctoral candidates
Every GSForest doctoral candidate, the ones funded via GSForest as well as the members funded by other sources (i.e. matching-fund doctoral candidates), can apply GSForest travelling grants. Application must be submitted well before the aimed travelling. It is possible to apply two grants annually. The second grant may not be full or can be rejected because of the limited budged of GSForest.
The travelling grants are allocated to:
- International research cooperation, for example working visits to research groups or labs abroad
- Participation in PhD courses organised by Finnish graduate schools or research organizations
- Participation in PhD courses organised by graduate schools / research organisations abroad
- Participation in international conferences
Deadlines:
- Grants for PhD courses and international conferences: 31.3.2012 / 31.8.2012
- Grants for international co-operation: 31.3.2012 / 31.8.2012
Decisions: The Head of GSForest makes the decision about the grant. The applicant is informed by e-mail.
Applications in free form should include the following information of the journey:
- application letter with contact information and explanation how the journey is related to your PhD work
- programme of the conference / course / visit (on paper)
- confirmation of poster or oral presentation (congress)
- dates (departure, return)
- detailed budged and the sum applied
- signed statement from your supervisor (other journey than research cooperation should also include information how the 30 % share not covered by GSForest is organized)
- signed invitation letter from your host (international research cooperation)
The travelling grant for the participation in PhD courses and conferences covers 70 % of the total expenses (excluding daily allowances) but 1000 EUR at maximum.
For the international research cooperation, the grant is 1500 EUR.
Prerequisites for obtaining the GSForest travelling grant:
- Active GSForest doctoral candidate: Applicant is a full-time doctoral candidate who proceeds well with PhD work and participates actively in GSForest activities; (including annual report for 2011 and plan for 2012 submitted to GSForest and a follow-up group, except candidates who started in GSForest at the beginning of 2012)
- Courses: PhD course suitable for the applicant's field of research.
- Conferences: Applicant has a poster or oral presentation (confirmation of acceptation should be included in the application)
- International research cooperation: a minimum one month's visit for PhD work.
