GSForest courses and seminars for PhD students

GSForest organises courses in summer-schools and in intensive course periods, which makes possible for PhD students working in separate Training Sites to participate in the courses. The aim is to organise courses that are not available in the general study programs of Finnish Universities. Most of the courses are organised in English and the teachers are national / international leaders in their field of research. Some courses are internationally financed, and some courses and seminars will be organised in co-operation with other graduate schools, universities, research institutes and enterprises.

Seminars:

• research and student evaluation seminars
• seminars to introduce working opportunities outside research in industry, business and administration
• different possibilities of research funding in Finland and abroad

Courses:

• specific scientific and professional courses in different themes
• scientific methodology (philosophy, ethical principles of science and scientific community, methodological studies including planning of research experiments, statistical interference, mathematics, information technology, computer science etc)
• scientific communication skills (scientific/academic writing, publishing in international journals, popularisation of science, presentation of research results in scientific conferences)
• human resource management, management of research projects

Travelling grants for the internationalisation of GSForest students

Participation in international congresses, workshops and courses, and visits in research groups and laboratories abroad is important for the internationalisation of the PhD students. With travelling grants GSForest supports the PhD students to meet foreign colleagues, get familiar with working in international atmosphere and create international contacts for future co-operation.
