ENO Learning Diary

ENO Learning Diary is a very useful tool. This is an important learning tool. We strongly ask that each ENO student should keep their personal learning diary where they make records and notes every week. For each themes diary templates are available (see activity sheets).

It is up to schools to decide whether they use manual diaries or ENO Diary Blogs.

Learning Diary as a self-evaluation method

The purpose of ENO Learning Diary is to function as an instrument to evaluate and implement personal learning. With learning diary we can express our experiences, support personal growth and recognize strengths and weaknesses in learning. Learning diary supports our continuous evaluation and we can write down our ideas. It's good to repeat succesful moments that have been written down in "good days". It encourages us to try again when we have "bad days". Learning can be implemented more systematically when we follow our progress with Learning Diary.

There are many positive things in learning diary. Especially it can support the self-piloting and self-evaluation of students. Learning Diary also improves the reflection of student, what and how he/she has learned. It gives information on progress of studies and encourages and motivates students. It also helps to clarify for the student with abstract things and theories.

How do I write a learning diary ?

Time planning and monitoring

This skill is a very useful one. It is very important to find a regular time for learning diary. This could beduring or in the end of ENO lessons. When you plan your time carefully it's easier to study.

Learning skills

In addition to contents in ENO, a very special part of studying is to learn how to learn. Learning is a skill that can only be practiced with learning, in addition to learning the content. An importat part of learning is the improvement of skills in self-evaluating. You should be able to evaluate in a realistic way your skills as a learner and the results of your studies. In learning diary you can evaluate systematically what you have or haven't learned, what you should learn and study more. Your ways of learning are connected to learning skills. With learning diary you can see your way of learning as a process. With thinking and writing down the way you study, what kind of results you achieved and what other ways you could use for studying, you get a possibility to evaluate and implement your learning. You can instantly write down your thoughts and feelings during your ENO lessons.

To whom do I write?

Writing to yourself is very useful but your learning diary will be explored by your ENO teacher. You can also compare it with your classmates.

Hints for learning diary: It's important to use the diary regularly. You don't have to write it every day, once a week is enough. Your stories can be long but it's also enough if you write down a couple of your thoughts. You only need 10-15 minutes for diary in a week.
