Pesäpallo Classic: East vs. West in Joensuu on 29.6.–1.7.

« Back
For the first time, Joensuu will host the legendary East vs. West games featuring pesäpallo, the Finnish variant of baseball. The world's leading pesäpallo champions will meet at the tournament on 29.6.–1.7. Matches will take place in the brand new Kerubi Stadium in Mehtimäki.

Pesäpallo boasts the longest-lasting all-star game tradition in Finland. In 1932, East and West challenged each other for the first time in Helsinki. Since then the games have become an annual classic among the country's sporting events. You can enjoy five great games between competing teams in Joensuu over the weekend.

The East-West tournaments combine a traditional sporting atmosphere and competitive spirit with modern organisation and spectator facilities. Did you know that a pesäpallo player can run more than 10 km in a game, throw a ball further than 120 metres, hit the ball at up to 180 km per hour and run 60 metres in just 7 seconds?

North Karelia's Regional Council, Maakuntaliitto, is sponsoring the A juniors' game on Friday, so entry is free. For match timetables and tickets, go to
