Joen Yö - Night by the River - Climax of the cultural summer on 24.8.

« Back
Friday, August 24, is the date of Joen Yö, a potpourri of cultural events for all Joensuu and North Karelia citizens. The festival programme covers the entire city, with Rantapuisto park, the Town Hall, Taitokortteli and Ilosaari being the key locations.

Besides cultural happenings of all kinds, visitors will be tempted by good food and drink. Try out various sports at the Sports Concourse at the Arena or have a taste of stand-up paddling.

A traditional feature of the event is the presence of 27 local interest organisations at the harbour.

Parts of the programme will take place at locations somewhat further away. These will be served by a street train, which stops at Taidemuseo, Botania, Arena and Woutila.

Ilosaari is the venue of choice for young and old: the youngest visitors are invited to do handicrafts or boffering, try their luck on wheels of fortune and take MSQRD selfies. For adults, a number of local breweries will organise beer and wine tasting, and Kerubin Grilli will stay open all evening.

The night will culminate in a bonfire on the Ilosaari lagoon, a fire show and a Samae Koskinen concert.
