Joensuu is to hold a festival week to celebrate the centennial of Finland's independence. The festivities start on Wednesday, 29.11, Joensuu's 169th anniversary, and there will be events on every day of the week. The Joensuu Week will culminate in Finland's Independence Day celebration on 6.12.

On Joensuu Day, traditional morning coffee will be served in the Theatre Restaurant and at service points in Eno, Kiihtelysvaara, Pyhäselkä and Tuupovaara. All residents are welcome. There is also free entry to all museums on Joensuu Day.

As the climax of the Finland 100 year, Joensuu will hold events at five different locations on 6.12. These begin with a wreath-laying ceremony at the war heroes' cemetery and grave monuments at 12.00. The main event will begin in Carelia Hall at 14.00 and coffee will be served afterwards. A torch parade organised by the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland will start at Carelia Hall at 16.00 and reach the war heroes' graves at 16.20 for a further commemoration.

Libraries throughout Finland invite everyone to celebrate Finland's Centennial on 6.12., welcoming young, old and new Finns!   In addition, all youth centres in Joensuu will have their own Finland 100 parties during Joensuu Week.
