The doors of Vainoniemi are open on Saturday, Oct 20th.
Leena Pelkonen, a guide from Joensuun matkailuoppaat, is available to guide you through the villa. The tour in English begins at 14.00. The Finnish tours are held at 10.00 and 12.00.
The tour lasts for approximately 1 hour, and there is no requirement to sign up in advance.
Located at Linnunlahti, the Vainoniemi villa is one of Finland's most beautiful wood buildings in the Jugend style. Simon Arvid Neppenström, a local merchant, had the house built in 1908. It was designed by the architect Otto Wäinö Weckman. The Neppenström family owned the building until 1919, when it was bought by another merchant, Heikki Surakka. His family would host evenings of music and poetry there. In 1965 the city of Joensuu bought the estate, and now it is available for rent as the locations of meetings, training, events, and festivities.
